is the TDA?

For years, nurses and medical staff have struggled to change dressings under tracheostomies easily while also maintaining comfort for both the patient and themselves. The Tracheostomy Dressing Applicator (TDA) offers a solution to this struggle with a more convenient and efficient way to change trach dressings. The TDA was designed with patient — and — caregiver comfort in mind. It fits smoothly inside a split 4×4 gauze dressing, and its sleek design enables the caregiver to place the dressing in the right position without manipulation. Finally, nurses and medical staff no longer have to struggle trying to get dressings in place with their fingers or gauze tip applicators! The TDA’s smooth plastic design assists with dressing application for a safer and more comfortable trach dressing experience.

How it Works

Step 1

Place the TDA inside a split gauze lining to coincide with the middle space of the tool.

Step 2

Gently slide the TDA with dressing under the trach ties and around the tracheostomy site.

Step 3

While holding the dressing in place with one hand, slide the TDA out from between the layers of the gauze.

The Creators

The TDA was imagined by two critical care nurses, Jeanne Hanneman and Marie Spitzer. As nurses, they knew that the challenges with trach care could be improved. They knew that if there were a way to make the process easier, it would increase compliance with dressing changes and help prevent secretions sitting around the trach site, which would in turn decrease infection. And so the TDA was created, giving the medical world a safer and more comfortable way to change tracheostomy dressings. Designed with patient comfort in mind, this disposable device makes providing tracheostomy care hassle-free and easy for medical staff while keeping the patient comfortable and safe.
